It is important that the tip of your work piece is adequately protected against the arc produced by the welding gun. The tip should be welded directly onto the work piece. Make sure that the welding gun is aimed at the tip and not the surrounding area because you do not want the arc to hit the sides of your automatic spot welding equipment. If there is any metal around the tip of the work piece, then this is another area that could be hit and cause damage. The tip should be securely welded onto the work piece before the welding gun is pointed at it. When you are welding the tip make sure that you cover the entire tip with shielding so that nothing falls into the air and is hit by the gun.

There are three different types of electrodes that can be used in automatic spot welding equipment. You will find that there are two types of electrodes that are most commonly used. There is the flux cored wire and the flux cored metal arc. The difference between these two types of electrodes is that one has a larger arc while the other has a smaller arc. Flux cored electrodes have a smaller arc and will require less current to produce an arc that is strong enough to weld a puddle.
